A NOTE FROM:

With media and entertainment sectors continuing to be whipped by winds of disruption, many industry execs believe they need to reinvent their business — or potentially see their companies face an existential threat. About 50% of M&E executives believe their company cannot rely on traditional business models to survive the shifting landscape, according to a new survey launched at CES 2020 by EY.  How are media and entertainment businesses reinventing in an age of transformation?

At Variety’s CES 2020 Entertainment Summit, John Harrison, EY Global Media & Entertainment Sector Leader, unveiled the findings of the survey in conversation with Variety’s co-editor-in-chief Andrew Wallenstein and executives Audrey Steele, EVP Research & Insights and Strategy, Fox Corp., and John Curbishley, EVP of Distribution Strategy and New Business, Viacom, who further explored key trends around talent, data and the evolution of the media and entertainment industries.
The discussion continued later in the afternoon as Janet Balis, EY Global Advisory Leader for Media & Entertainment and Americas Marketing Consulting Leader, sat down with moderator Heather Dumford, SVP, MediaLink, and executives Armin Molavi, VP Global Media Strategy, Hilton; Austin Schumacher, Head of Culture & Entertainment Marketing, Lyft; and Bill Lathrop, Director Strategic Partnership Marketing, Coca-Cola, to discuss why it’s critical for brands to “place the human at the center” if they are to cut-through in this increasingly crowded marketplace.
