Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary of State

On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, I send best wishes to the people of Myanmar on the occasion of your independence day, January 4.

The United States remains committed to partnering with the people of Myanmar in support of the country's continued democratic transition, national reconciliation, and economic transformation – as we have done for decades.

We will continue to work with your government, civil society, and youth to help achieve a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Myanmar that respects the dignity and rights of all people.

I wish all the people of Myanmar peace and prosperity in the coming year.
