The United Kingdom officially left the European Union on Friday, bringing an end to 47 years of membership — and more than three years of political uncertainty, rancor and division. With the Brexit divorce now official, the U.K. has walked away from the world's largest political and economic club, a historic milestone that looks set to define the former empire's alliances in a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape. In a recorded speech, Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised the moment as "the dawn of a new era" and vowed to help heal a deeply divided nation.
