Huberman says that bad sleep causes mens' testosterone levels and females' estrogen levels to plummet. In turn, that means you're less motivated, less energetic, and way less sexually healthy. All because of bad sleep (or a lack thereof). Huberman says that if you're trying to get good sleep and can't figure it out, it might be due to bad breathing practices. Breathing through your mouth all day and all night increases your body's stress levels. And when you're stressed, you can't sleep. "The simple version of this is getting your breathing right during the waking hours," Huberman said in an episode of his podcast. Huberman says that you should breathe through your nose as much as possible during the day so that your stress levels are low when it's time for bed. And once you crawl into bed, you should continue nasal breathing to lower anxiety and send your body into a state of deep relaxation. "You should be a nose breather," Huberman says.
