Novartis Pays Over $642 Million to Settle Allegations of Improper Payments to Patients and Physicians 07/01/2020 12:00 AM EDT Pharmaceutical company Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation (Novartis), based in East Hanover, New Jersey, has agreed to pay over $642 million in separate settlements resolving claims that it violated the False Claims Act (FCA).  The first settlement pertains to the company's alleged illegal use of three foundations as conduits to pay the copayments of Medicare patients taking Novartis's drugs Gilenya and Afinitor.  The second settlement resolves claims arising from the company's alleged payments of kickbacks to doctors. Pharmaceutical company Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation (Novartis), based in East Hanover, New Jersey, has agreed to pay over $642 million in separate settlements resolving claims that it violated the False Claims Act (FCA).  The first settlement pertains to the company's alleged illegal use of three foundations as conduits to pay the copayments of Medicare patients taking Novartis's drugs Gilenya and Afinitor.  The second settlement resolves claims arising from the company's alleged payments of kickbacks to doctors.

Latest update from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Mountain-Prairie Region Black sandshell mussel propagation 07/01/2020 06:48 AM MDT USFWS Mountain Prairie posted a photo: Black sandshell mussels have been extirpated from Nebraska. Recently Gavins Point NFH began an experiment aimed at developing a potential recovery program. Genoa NFH provided a female black sandshell mussel and the hatchery's aim was to see if flathead chubs (a local minnow species) would work as a host fish for the larval (glochidia) phase of the mussel's life cycle. Composed of six regional centers and the RISS Technology Support Center, RISS encompasses more than 9,000 local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement and public safety agencies, which work together to share information and respond to the unique crime problems of each region.             "A robust information sharing capability is essential to effective law enforcement and foundational to community safety," said OJP Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Katharine T. Sullivan.
