The following GAIN reports were released on July 14, 2025.

_______

In Australia, all food, whether imported or locally produced, must adhere to a comprehensive set of laws designed to safeguard consumer, plant, and animal health. Specifically, all imported food is first required to meet quarantine and imported food regulations before also satisfying food safety requirements.

China: National Food Safety Standard Microbiological Examination in Foods - Listeria monocytogenes Testing

On March 27, 2025, China's NHC and the SAMR jointly released the National Food Safety Standard Microbiological Examination in Foods - Listeria monocytogenes Testing (GB 4789.30-2025). This updated standard applies to the testing of Listeria monocytogenes in foods. The final standard will enter into force on September 16, 2025, and will replace the current standard of GB 4789.30-2016. At the time of this report, China hadn't notified the WTO of this revised standard. This report provides unofficial translation of the final standard. Stakeholders should conduct their own review of the regulations to assess any market or regulatory effect on their business.

India: State of Maharashtra Hikes Excise Duty on Distilled Spirits

Maharashtra has increased excise duties on Indian-made foreign liquor and Indian-made Indian liquor, but exempted both imported and domestic beer and wine. While the measures are expected to generate an additional $1.6 billion annually, the rising costs may be passed on to customers in hospitality sector, potentially affecting the sales of imported products, including U.S. distilled spirits.

Saudi Arabia: FAIRS Country Report Annual

Saudi Arabia has published numerous regulations and standards over the years. While many of these regulations (both mandatory and voluntary) were notified to the World Trade Organization (WTO), it should be noted that many are implemented on short notice making it difficult for U.S. exporters to adjust or comment. The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) also requires that halal certificates accompanying poultry, livestock meat (products and ingredients) and food products (made with animal rennet, gelatin, lipase, and pepsin) must be issued exclusively by a Halal Certification Body that is accredited by the SFDA's Halal Center. Significant changes in this report include an updated list of eligible U.S. Halal certifiers and notice of revised palletization requirements for containerized cargo shipments to the Kingdom.

Taiwan: Stone Fruit Annual

Taiwan is a mature import market for stone fruits, producing only peaches but not nectarines or cherries. The supply of nectarines and cherries relies entirely on imports. In 2025, Taiwan's peach production is expected to reach 17,000 tons, with an increasing share of low-chill varieties. Because of higher domestic production and increased nectarine imports during the winter, total consumption in 2025 is projected to reach 31,500 tons. Taiwan's cherries are primarily supplied by Chile in the winter and the United States in the summer. Winter demand, driven by Lunar New Year gift-giving traditions, pushed MY 2024/2025 imports to a ten-year high of 15,568 tons. In 2025, stable U.S. production with high quality is expected to boost summer consumption. Although the 2026 Lunar New Year will coincide with the end of Chile's cherry season, overall MY2025/2026 cherry consumption is still anticipated to reach 16,500 tons.

Turkey: Turkiye Sets its Agricultural Priorities for the Next 5-Years

In April 2025, the 4th Agriculture and Forestry Council (AFC) developed a framework that is intended to guide the future of the Turkish agricultural sector for the next five years. The AFC's proposed framework is aimed at strengthening food security, increasing exports, modernization, and enhancing climate change resilience.
