Job losses 7.6 million, job gains 7.6 million, during third quarter 2024 05/14/2025 From June 2024 to September 2024, gross job losses from closing and contracting private-sector establishments were 7.6 million, a decrease of 131,000 jobs from the previous quarter. Gross job gains from opening and expanding private-sector establishments were also 7.6 million, an increase of 31,000 jobs from the previous quarter. Gross job losses and gross job gains each represented 5.8 percent of total private-sector employment in third quarter 2024. HTML
