OVW FY 2025 Sexual Assault Forensic Exam Research Initiative (SAFE Research Initiative) Funding Opportunity Now Open

FY 2025 Notice of Funding Opportunity Announcement NOW OPEN: FY 2025 Sexual Assault Forensic Exam Research Initiative (SAFE Research Initiative) Notice of Funding Opportunity(NOFO) OVW's SAFE Research Initiative is now accepting applications. The SAFE Research Initiative is authorized by 34 U.S.C. § 40723. The award recipient will design, conduct, and share with OVW research on the following: the availability of, and patient access to, trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) and other providers who perform medical forensic exams (MFEs) or sexual assault forensic examinations; facilities where sexual assault medical forensic care is available, including staffing coverage; barriers to accessing sexual assault medical forensic care; state requirements, minimum standards, and protocols for SANEs; information about training available to SANEs; the availability of sexual assault victim advocates at locations where such exams are provided; the annual cost of conducting SAFEs; information on funding opportunities for SANE training and continuing education; and the availability of sexual assault advocates at locations providing SAFEs (see 34 U.S.C. § 40723(d)). The research collected will be used by OVW in a report to Congress, briefing materials, and a public webpage on OVW's website. Entities that are eligible to apply are: nonprofits (with or without 50(c)(3) status) and institutions of higher education (i.e., any private, public, or state-controlled institution of higher education). Foreign governments, foreign organizations, and foreign institutions of higher education are not eligible to apply. OVW is looking for peer reviewers who can objectively review, evaluate, and score applications for our grant programs. Peer reviewers consist of active or recently retired practitioners with on-the-ground experience responding to the crimes of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. We are prioritizing the recruitment of peer reviewers from diverse communities and geographical regions. Prior experience as a peer reviewer is not required and you cannot peer review for grants you are currently applying for.
