Healthcare Providers and Laboratory Marketers Agree to Pay Over $1.9M to Settle Kickback Allegations 03/06/2025 07:00 AM EST COLUMBIA, S.C. — Gerald Congdon, M.D., of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, Gbenga Aluko, M.D., of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Anup Banerjee, M.D., of Gastonia, North Carolina, and their medical practices, as well as Curis Healthcare Inc., of Chicago, Illinois, Omar Hussain, of South Miami, Florida, and Saeed Medical Group Ltd. d/b/a Alliance Immediate and Primary Care, of Chicago, Illinois, agreed to pay a total of $1,913,808 to resolve alleged False Claims Act violations arising from their involvement in laboratory kickback schemes. The parties have agreed to cooperate with the Department of Justice's investigations of other participants in the alleged schemes. Mexican National Previously Removed From The United States Six Times And Previously Convicted Of Illegal Re Entry Twice Is Charged Again With Illegal Reentry 03/05/2025 07:00 AM EST Jacksonville, Florida – Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announces the return of an indictment charging Juan Carlos Ruiz-Diaz (44, Mexico) with illegal reentry by a previously deported alien. If convicted, Ruiz-Diaz faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. Immigration-Related Identity Theft Investigation Leads To Charges Against 18 Individuals 03/05/2025 07:00 AM EST Tampa, Florida – Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announces that 18 individuals have been charged as the result of an immigration-related identity theft investigation. Each has been charged with aggravated identity theft, misuse of Social Security numbers, and false statements regarding citizenship with the intent to engage unlawfully in employment. The attached summary chart provides additional information. If convicted on all counts, each faces a minimum penalty of two years, up to 12 years, in federal prison.  Orlando And Miami Women Sentenced For Conspiracy Involving Kilograms Of Methamphetamine And Fentanyl And Tens Of Thousands In Drug Proceeds 03/05/2025 07:00 AM EST Orlando, Florida – U.S. District Judge Wendy Berger today sentenced Mayerline Patricia Salcedo (31, Orlando) and Rachel Beth Cordero (31, Miami) to 12 and 6 years and 6 months in federal prison, respectively, for their roles in conspiring to distribute fentanyl and other drugs. The court also ordered Cordero to forfeit $3,689 in drug proceeds seized from her vehicle and Salcedo to forfeit $27,286 in drug proceeds and a firearm seized from her apartment. Cordero pleaded guilty on September 13, 2024, and Salcedo pleaded guilty on October 25, 2024.
