| Agents and attorneys: Learn to think like a patent examiner If you are a USPTO-registered patent attorney or agent, it helps to think like a patent examiner. Get a better understanding of how examiners make decisions by attending Stakeholder Training on Examination Practice and Procedure (STEPP). This virtual four-day course for agents and attorneys will run January 21-24 from noon to 4:15 p.m. ET. Each day of the course builds upon the last: - Day one focuses on the role of an examiner and the steps an examiner takes when reading an application for the first time.
- Day two uses the information gathered during day one to plan and conduct a search, emphasizing relevant legal statutes.
- Day three builds on day two, applying relevant statutes about mapping prior art to the sample claims.
- Day four finishes discussing mapping art to claims and focuses on writing an office action.
To attend, you must submit an interest form and meet certain criteria. Interest forms are being accepted until January 14 or until registration is full. Visit our event page for more information, including how to submit an interest form. Email STEPP@uspto.gov if you have any questions. | | Having trouble accessing links in this email?
