In 2023, 13.7 million people experience some unemployment, up by 747,000 from 2022

The number of people who experienced unemployment at some point during the year increased to 13.7 million in 2023. The proportion of the civilian noninstitutional population age 16 and over who worked at some time during 2023 rose by 0.4 percentage point to 64.2 percent.
