Learn how to file DOCX documents in your patent applications Learn how to file in DOCX through Patent Center. Register today for the final 2024 training, scheduled for November 21. During the training, the eCommerce Modernization (eMod) team will demonstrate the Patent Center training mode. We'll also highlight a recent enhancement that allows users to go directly to the upload documents screen for nonprovisional utility patent applications. You'll be able to quickly receive DOCX validations and download the feedback document, which pinpoints the location of warnings and errors. Each session takes about an hour and includes time for questions, as well as an opportunity to use the training mode to practice DOCX filing. Once you have registered for a training, you will receive an email with instructions for joining the webinar prior to your session. We encourage applicants to use the Patent Center training mode to practice filing in DOCX without saving or storing data to our systems. We also recommend viewing this video on how to file DOCX documents in training mode before the webinar. As previously noted, effective January 17, 2024, those filing new, nonprovisional utility patent applications with specification, claims, and abstracts in non-DOCX filing format, including preliminary amendments filed on the same day as the application, now incur a surcharge. The option for applicants to provide an auxiliary PDF version of their application with their DOCX version remains available. There are no fees associated with providing the auxiliary PDF.
