U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida Supports Justice Department's Nationwide Election Day Program 10/18/2024 08:00 AM EDT United States Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida announced today that designated Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in his office will lead the efforts of his Office in connection with the Justice Department's nationwide Election Day Program for the upcoming November 5, 2024, general election.  These AUSAs will be responsible for overseeing the District's handling of election day complaints of voting rights concerns, threats of violence to election officials or staff, and election fraud, in consultation with Justice Department Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Peruvian National Sentenced in Transnational Scheme to Defraud Spanish-Speaking United States Consumers 10/18/2024 08:00 AM EDT A Peruvian national was sentenced yesterday to 98 months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $700,000 in restitution to his more than 1,100 victims for his role overseeing a transnational fraud conspiracy that targeted recent immigrants to the United States.
