Fueling the Future!

πŸ“š Reminder to Register for the BRIDGES Bioenergy 101 Virtual Workshop

bridges workshop

Hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office and National Association of Biology Teachers

Registration is now open for the Bioenergy Research and Education Bridge Program (BRIDGES) Bioenergy 101 Virtual Workshop hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) and the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT).

Discover new teaching strategies, resources, and more at this BRIDGES workshop designed for an impactful learning experience for high school, technical and community college, and university students!

The workshop will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Designed for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) educators, the workshop combines content-rich bioenergy national laboratory research and compelling instruction on effective teaching practices. Bioenergy knowledge is not required.

Developing and Strengthening Skills for the Next Generation Workforce

Led by DOE national laboratory experts, this BRIDGES Workshop will focus on the Regional Feedstocks: Are they the Answer to Achieving a Net Zero Future? case study. During the workshop, educators will learn how to introduce their students to sustainability challenges and benefits of biofuels for the transportation industry by evaluating regional biomass and waste resources.

Workshop panelists will demonstrate how BRIDGES can provide an opportunity for students to develop and strengthen skills in problem solving, complex decision-making, and understanding research and development dynamics. Educators will also discover how each bioenergy case study can provide opportunities to understand culturally responsive agriculture and energy practices, while increasing awareness about environmental and community impacts.

How to Prepare

Download and review the BRIDGES Regional Feedstocks Instructor's Guide located in the BRIDGES Portal.

For more information, email Bioenergy_Bridges@ee.doe.gov.

Created by the DOE's Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory and Idaho National Laboratory, BRIDGES is a bioenergy education curriculum that includes four case studies covering sustainable aviation fuel, upcycling plastics, bioenergy feedstocks, and waste-to-energy potential.

BETO supports technology research, development, and demonstration to accelerate greenhouse gas emissions reductions through the cost-effective and sustainable use of biomass and waste feedstocks across the U.S. economy. BETO is part of DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy.
