PHOENIX, Ariz. – Morris Gary Hibbitt, 51, of Avondale, pleaded guilty on June 17, 2024, before United States Magistrate Judge John Z. Boyle to the felony charge of sexual abuse of an inmate. On September 9, 2024, Chief United States District Judge G. Murray Snow will sentence Hibbitt. At the time of the offense, Hibbitt worked as a Security Supervisor for Behavioral Systems Southwest (BSS), a residential reentry center in Phoenix. The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) contracts with BSS to help inmates reenter the community when they complete their prison terms. Inmate wards at BSS remain in official detention and under the custodial authority of the BOP.

Ocala, Florida – United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces that Gary Dale Thrasher (56, Georgia) has pleaded guilty to five counts of bank fraud, three counts of passport fraud, and seven counts of aggravated identity theft. Thrasher faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison on each of the bank fraud counts; a maximum of 10 years' imprisonment for each of the passport fraud offenses; and a 2-year minimum mandatory term of imprisonment for the aggravated identity thefts. Thrasher was indicted on March 27, 2024.

The owner of an Olathe, Kansas, business pleaded guilty in federal court today to her role in a money-laundering conspiracy to transfer the proceeds of heroin and methamphetamine trafficking to Mexico. A Kansas City, Mo., woman also pleaded guilty to her role in the drug-trafficking conspiracy.

An Arkansas man was arrested today for allegedly assaulting law enforcement and other charges related to his conduct during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. His alleged actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election.

A California woman pleaded guilty today to devising a multi-year scheme to defraud the U.S. government by submitting fake invoices for supplies that were never purchased and converting the stolen funds for her personal use.
