Events at the Library of Congress 2023 National Book Festival  Join us in the nation's capital at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Saturday, August 12, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (doors open at 8:30 a.m.). If you can't join us in Washington, D.C. for a day of free talks and activities, several programs will be livestreamed, and video of all talks can be viewed online after the Festival concludes. Learn more.  Live! at the Library Thursday, August 10, 5-8 p.m. ET  The Library's Thomas Jefferson Building and all exhibitions will be open for extended hours on Thursdays. Visitors are invited to enjoy happy hour drinks and food available for purchase in the Great Hall and the Jefferson Building's beautiful architecture while immersing themselves in the Library's exhibits, collections and programs. Learn more.  Live! at the Library: "Jaws" (1975) Thursday, August 10, 7-9 p.m. ET  "You're gonna need a bigger boat!" Join us for a screening of "Jaws" (1975), the classic Steven Spielberg film based on the novel by Peter Benchley. Run time 2 hours, 10 minutes. Before the film, enjoy a pre-recorded performance from Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Aymé Nuviola at 7 p.m. Learn more.  National Book Festival Opening Celebration: Everyone Has a Story Friday, August 11, 7 p.m. ET  On the eve of the 2023 National Book Festival, join Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden and festival co-chair David M. Rubenstein as they welcome five of the dozens of authors appearing at this year's festival. This special event, live from the Library of Congress, features Angeline Boulley, David Grann, R.K. Russell, Beverly Gage and Luis Alberto Urrea. Learn more.  Folklore Today/Folklore Tomorrow: Expanding the Conversation with Marilyn White Wednesday, August 16, Noon ET Folklorist Marilyn White, current President of the American Folklore Society, retired Professor at Kean University, and a pivotal member of such influential groups as the Association of African and African American Folklorists, City Lore (NYC), and the New Jersey Folklore Society, reflects on her career and the challenges that must be met for the field to become more inclusive and reflective of 21st century America. Learn more.  Live! at the Library: Café Concert with Project Fusion Sax Quartet Thursday, August 17, 6:15 p.m. For the inaugural Live at the Library Café Concert, visitors are invited to enjoy a program of saxophone fusion from Project Fusion Sax Quartet on the Library's Great Hall Mezzanine level. Café tables and food and beverage sales will be available in this picturesque space overlooking the U.S. Capitol Building. The quartet will perform two 45-minute sets, at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Learn more.  Webinars    Finding Pictures: Photojournalism Wednesday, August 16, 3-4 p.m. ET Join photography curators as they explore the photojournalism collections of the Prints & Photographs Division, tracing the trajectory of photojournalism from the 19th century to the present day. Learn more. Film Screenings at the Packard Campus Theater Join us for an array of iconic films screenings at the Packard Campus Theater. Programs are free and open to the public. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
