Achieving and maintaining eLitigation proficiency among attorneys and staff is a top priority of the Department of Justice and the United States Attorney's Office. This Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) will be responsible for building and overseeing the office's eLitigation Unit, which will serve all litigating divisions. This includes advising and/or consulting with both civil and criminal case teams, office management, and others, such as defense counsel, law enforcement and client agencies, the Court, Federal Public Defender, on substantive electronic litigation (eLitigation) and discovery issues; ensuring discovery processes are defensible; developing the office's eLitigation policies, procedures, and protocols, including procedures for processing, reviewing, producing, and managing electronic discovery; supervising litigation support specialists; supervising and coordinating the processing of discovery in criminal and civil cases, and providing training on litigation technology software tools and applications.

This is not a trial AUSA position, although it may involve briefing the Court on eLitigation issues and providing technical and IT advice and support for trial teams relating to such matters. The selected candidate will be an attorney advisor, who will be fully dedicated to coordinating the office's eLitigation program. The AUSA will be located in the Cleveland Office of the Northern District of Ohio.

Experience with complex civil or criminal litigation and with using litigation technology applications to acquire, organize, analyze and present electronic discovery and evidence is strongly preferred. Successful candidates should have a strong academic background, possess superior oral and written communication skills, possess strong interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated the capacity to work effectively with a team, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. Successful candidates should also possess the knowledge and ability to use computers and computer applications in performing day-to-day work requirements.

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio is seeking to hire an Assistant United States Attorney to work in the Office's Criminal Division and be responsible for representing the United States in the investigation and prosecution of Domestic Terrorism and/or Violent Crimes. This position will focus on confronting and curtailing violent crimes committed by individuals acting on their own and in conjunction with others. It may involve prosecution of a wide range of crimes including gun and drug offenses, Hobbs Act robberies, arsons, RICOs, VICARs, and other violent crimes committed to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences.

The AUSA will review and analyze allegations of violations of domestic terrorism and/or other violent crime; develop strategies for investigations; coordinate with federal law enforcement agencies to ensure that cases are investigated thoroughly and effectively; develop testimonial and documentary evidence relevant to cases; present evidence to federal grand juries; identify relevant legal issues in cases and investigations; recommend for or against federal prosecution; meet and confer with officials from the Department of Justice, other federal, state, and local government agencies, and interested non-governmental organizations; and establish good working relationships with partners and federal investigative agencies nationwide.

In addition, the AUSA will prepare and present cases for prosecution, to include preparing grand jury authorization requests, prosecution summaries, and indictment recommendations; preparing indictments, motions, pleadings, and briefs; conducting pretrial discovery and motions practice; developing testimonial and documentary evidence for trial; and conducting every aspect of trial preparation and trial presentation in federal criminal trials.

The AUSA will also handle non-litigation matters that arise in relation to the Division's mission of investigating and prosecuting cases. These non-litigation duties might include participating in strategy and coordination meetings; conducting legal trainings, public presentations, and other forms of outreach; meeting with interested persons regarding prosecutorial decisions; and other non-litigation duties.

The selected AUSA will be dedicated to investigating and prosecuting fraud committed against a range COVID-19 pandemic relief programs, including the Paycheck Protection Program, the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program, and the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program. The selected AUSA will coordinate and work on investigations with more than 15 federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, IRS - Criminal Investigation, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Secret Service, and many others.

Since March 2020, the U.S. Attorney's Office has proactively partnered and coordinated with the law enforcement community in Ohio, and conducted outreach to the public and institutions that were likely to be targets of COVID-19 related fraud. The successful applicant will be able to work equally well individually and in a team setting, and will possess the judgment and skill necessary to succeed as part of a fast-paced and aggressive prosecutive team. The position will be part of the USAO NDOH's Criminal Division.

The selected AUSA will prepare and present cases for prosecution, to include preparing grand jury authorization requests, prosecution summaries, and indictment recommendations; preparing indictments, motions, pleadings, and briefs; conducting pretrial discovery and motions practice; developing testimonial and documentary evidence for trial; and conducting every aspect of trial preparation and trial presentation in federal criminal trials in jurisdictions across the United States.

The AUSA will also handle non-litigation matters that arise in relation to the Division's mission of investigating and prosecuting cases. These non-litigation duties might include participating in strategy and coordination meetings; conducting legal trainings, public presentations, and other forms of outreach; meeting with interested persons regarding prosecutorial decisions; and other non-litigation duties.

An ideal applicant will have a background or experience in one or more of the following areas: criminal prosecution, investigations, affirmative civil enforcement, or commercial litigation. Applicants will be expected to do their own legal research and writing and will be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings. Applicants must also demonstrate excellent computer literacy skills, such as experience with e-discovery and e-litigation platforms, electronic court filing, and e-mail and word processing systems.
