Assistant Attorney General VI - State Treasurer's Office/Maryland Sheriffs Division

Job Title:   Assistant Attorney General VI         Position Type:  Regular Full Time ​

Salary:   $89,727 - $144,573. The salary range is based on a multitude of factors including applicable personnel rules, regulations, and guidelines.                                                                                                      

Location:  Office of the Attorney General, State Treasurer's Office  80 Calvert Street Annapolis, MD

Telework Status:  A hybrid remote telework and in-office schedule option may be available per OAG's policies and procedures.

DESCRIPTION: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the legal business of the State, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials and institutions of State Government. As Maryland's 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown, leads the Office with a key focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for an Assistant Attorney General to represent the Maryland State Treasurer and the Maryland Sheriffs. The Assistant Attorney General will work with the Senior Counsel to the Treasurer, who have responsibility for: (i) the direct handling of particularly complex tort litigation brought against the State under the Maryland Tort Claims Act and litigation brought against the Maryland Sheriffs and their deputies including, both tort and employment related cases; (ii) coordinating the work of dozens of assistant attorneys general assigned to various State agencies who handle the remainder of the State's tort litigation; (iii) serving as a resource for assistant attorneys general across the State by, among other things, leading the Office of Attorney General's Tort Litigation Work Group; (iv) providing legal advice and guidance to the Maryland Sheriffs and their deputies as well as the employees of the Insurance Division of the State Treasurer's Office, in each case, with respect to policies and procedures, and compliance with state and Federal laws.
