Announcement #: 23-MIW-12026510-AUSA
Application Deadline: September 30, 2023

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan is presently hiring for multiple permanent Criminal AUSA positions including the following specialty areas:

Assistant U.S. Attorney (Indian Country)

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan is currently seeking applications from experienced litigators to fill an AUSA position handling criminal cases in its Grand Rapids Office, with occasional travel to its Marquette Office. The AUSA will work with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute primarily crimes occurring on property owned by, or held in trust for, Native American Tribes. This is an important position in our District, which has eleven federally-recognized tribes within its borders-together comprising the largest Native American population in any district east of the Mississippi River. The AUSA who fills this role will prosecute a variety of cases, many involving vulnerable victims, including crimes against children and disproportionately affecting Native women. The AUSA may also prosecute other offenses, such as crimes involving firearms and explosives, drug-trafficking offenses, and financial frauds. The AUSA will also provide training and coordination in connection with legal issues affecting tribes in the District.

Assistant U.S. Attorney (Domestic Terrorism/Violent Crime)

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan is currently seeking applications from experienced litigators to fill an AUSA position handling criminal cases in its Grand Rapids Office. This position will focus on confronting and curtailing violent crime in West Michigan, including crimes committed by domestic violent extremists (DVE), and may involve prosecution of a wide range of cases from firearms and drug trafficking offenses; Hobbs Act robberies; arsons; domestic terrorism and other violent crimes. The Western District of Michigan has prosecuted several significant and important DVE cases in recent years, including the prosecution of anti-government extremists who conspired to kidnap the Governor of the State of Michigan to spark a violent uprising against the government. The AUSA who fills this position will join a talented and dedicated team of public servants committed to upholding the rule of law, keeping the district safe, and protecting civil rights.
