OFCCP Observes Pride Month This Pride Month, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) celebrates the achievements of LGBTQI+ Americans and reaffirms its commitment to eliminating discrimination against LGBTQI+ workers. As President Biden stated in his proclamation, "Pride is a celebration of generations of LGBTQI+ people, who have fought bravely to live openly and authentically. And it is a reminder that we still have generational work to do to ensure that everyone enjoys the full promise of equity, dignity, protection, and freedom." Despite the progress made, including the Supreme Court's recognition in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia that LGBTQI+ individuals are entitled to anti-discrimination protections under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, LGBTQI+ Americans continue to face barriers to opportunity. The Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law found that 46% of LGBT workers have experienced unfair treatment at work at some point in their lives and 34% of LGBT employers have left a job due to treatment by their employer. OFCCP recognizes that important work is needed to address injustice and inequality, and ensure every workplace is inclusive. We enforce Executive Order 11246, which prohibits federal contractors and subcontractors from discriminating against job applicants and employees based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The agency also investigates complaints of discrimination it receives, and proactively evaluates contractors' compliance with anti-discrimination protections. We will continue to work diligently to better understand the challenges faced by LGBTQI+ jobseekers and workers, and to ensure federal contractors advance equal employment opportunity. Our resources for LGBTQI+ workers and federal contractors to know their rights and obligations under Executive Order 11246 include the following: |
