The United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Wisconsin is looking for a highly qualified, experienced attorney to fill a full-time position as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in its Criminal Division.
The AUSA's duties will include prosecution in federal court of cases that affect Indian Country and serving as a liaison between the tribes and the USAO. Cases that affect Indian Country include federal gun, drug, child exploitation, human trafficking, and fraud crimes affecting the tribes, as well as federal violations specific to Indian Country involving embezzlement and public corruption, as well as other substantive areas. The AUSA hired for this position will fulfill other duties as assigned, including appellate and post-conviction litigation.
All initial attorney appointments to the Department of Justice are made on a 14-month (temporary) basis pending favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent without further competition.
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
