New Blog: Hispanic Workers with Disabilities in the Labor Force

Sept. 15 – Oct. 15 marks National Hispanic Heritage Month, an annual celebration of Hispanic Americans' contributions to America's history, culture, and ongoing progress as a nation. In honor of the month, the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy recently posted a workforce data blog focused on Hispanic Americans' representation in various industries and occupations.

Celebrate NDEAM – Access available resources today

Resources and materials are available for October's National Disability Employment Awareness Month produced by ODEP. These resources are available to assist your organization in planning and implementing NDEAM 2022 activities. Watch the NDEAM video and visit the NDEAM website to order a poster, download social media graphics, find articles, and read about strategies centered on this year's theme, "Disability: Part of the Equity Equation."

Retaining Employees with Disabilities through Performance Coaching and Management Webinar

In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion invites you to join the webinar "Retaining Valued Employees with Disabilities: The Importance of Performance Coaching and Management" on Wednesday, October 19, at 2:00 PM ET. Hear from Harwinder Taunque, Senior Vice President of ATM Testing at Citi, and Cathy West, Vice President of JP Morgan Chase's Office of Disability Inclusion, as they share effective strategies managers can use to support and empower employees with disabilities and confidently engage in coaching and performance dialogues. Throughout October, check out EARN's resources, including the Inclusion@Work: A Framework for Building a Disability-Inclusive Organization, to learn about strategies for creating disability-inclusive workplace cultures to meet organization-wide diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility goals.

Allergies and Accommodations

Depending on the type and severity of their conditions, people with allergies may experience limitations in the workplace. As a result, they may be entitled to workplace accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and other disability nondiscrimination legislation. As part of its Accommodation and Compliance series, the ODEP-funded Job Accommodation Network offers guidance on common workplace accommodations for people with allergies, including examples of specific situations and solutions experienced by employees and employers.

Disability Employment Video PSAs

Did you know that the Campaign for Disability Employment's five public service announcements are offered in a variety of formats for accessibility, including open-captioned, audio-introduced, and now, American Sign Language video? In addition, each CDE PSA has one or more accompanying materials for use in the workplace, such as posters and discussion guides. Funded by ODEP, the CDE is a collaborative effort among several disability and business organizations that showcases supportive, inclusive workplaces for all workers.

Promising Practices on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility within the Workforce System Webinar

How can we advance equitable workforce practices that support improved outcomes for all participants while simultaneously providing innovative services for employer customers? What does it look like to acknowledge customers' intersecting identities to meet their unique strengths and needs? Join the LEAD Center on October 27 from 3:00 – 4:30 PM ET for the webinar "Promising Practices on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility within the Workforce System." The webinar will highlight some effective state and local practices that promote DEIA in the workforce system in the areas of business services, internal staff training, and policy implementation.
