He served in the U.S. Army but was deported. After 23 years, he was allowed to return.

Luis, a U.S. Army veteran, was 20 years old when he swore to defend the Constitution against all enemies. But in the late 1990s, he was deported to Nicaragua after a drug-related conviction following years of drug abuse and arrests he attributes to his depression and PTSD. Luis returned to U.S. soil this March, after 23 long years and help from a Facebook group he found called Brotherhood of Deported Veterans.
