DOE Seeks Input on $630 Million in Programs to Modernize Hydropower Facilities

DOE issued a request for information to inform the structure of two incentive programs that will make existing hydropower facilities more energy-efficient and resilient so they can produce more clean, affordable power. DOE invites feedback from industry, clean-energy advocates, officials in areas that generate hydroelectricity, and other stakeholders by September 6.

Funding Updates

DOE Issues Notice of Intent to Fund Industrial Decarbonization Research and Development

EERE's Advanced Manufacturing Office plans to issue a funding opportunity for research and development projects that advance technologies to reduce emissions across the industrial sector and increase U.S. manufacturing. Projects will likely need to be applicable to the four key industrial decarbonization pathways: energy efficiency; industrial electrification; low carbon fuels, feedstocks, and energy sources; and carbon capture, utilization, and storage.

Energy Competitions

DOE Launches Second Phase of L-Prize Lighting Competition

EERE's Building Technologies Office opened the prototype phase of the $12.2 million L-Prize, a competition that rewards rapid innovation in lighting performance leading to energy, emissions, and cost savings. Up to six competitors will share an award of $2 million and advance to the final phase, manufacturing and installation.

Solar Panel American Flag

The "Solar Independence" exhibit was designed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's Ben Kroposki in 2000 and displayed at the National Park Service National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C., in 2001. Clean energy, like solar, will help secure U.S. energy independence.
