Jul 23, 2022 Congress let a key aid program expire — and thousands of Americans are already feeling the effects If a company closes a factory in the U.S. and ships jobs overseas or shuts down a plant because it can find cheaper materials abroad, advocates say the decades-old Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers program has been there to help millions find new jobs. The program lapsed July 1, thousands of workers are already affected and Congress does not appear to have found a clear path to renewing it as Democrats claim Republicans are blocking efforts to reauthorize it.
