What to Read This Weekend

Before the big N.B.A. game Tuesday night, there was no talk of basketball, only frustration, rage and pain.

On Thursday, sports slid into the background once again, as was appropriate, replaced by heartbreaking facts, courtesy of two Major League Baseball teams, and calls to do something to end the carnage.

What to Watch This Weekend

Soccer

The club soccer season comes to its conclusion with the Champions League final from the Stade de France outside Paris. Six-time winner Liverpool takes on 13-time winner Real Madrid (Saturday, 2:30 p.m., CBS, Univision).

Auto Racing

Two iconic races take place in one glorious doubleheader. It starts with the world of Euro celebrity and money descending on Monte Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix (Sunday, 8:55 a.m., ESPN). Racing fans will then turn their eyes back home to Indiana for the tradition-laden Indy 500 (Sunday, 12:30 p.m., NBC).

Cricket

It's the biggest day of the richest event in cricket: Expect Bollywood stars and fireworks at the Indian Premier League final (Sunday, 8:30 a.m., ESPN+).

Hockey

Even as the N.H.L. playoffs continue, American hockey is fighting for a rare achievement. The national team has not won a stand-alone world championship since 1933, but it has advanced to this year's semifinals. (U.S. vs. Finland, Saturday 7:20 a.m., NHL Network; final, Sunday, 1:20 p.m., NHL Network)

Lacrosse

N.C.A.A. Division I lacrosse wraps up this weekend as well (women's final, Sunday, noon, ESPN; men's final, 1 p.m., ESPN).
