SMIS Reopens for Entering New Employee Vaccination Status

Effective Friday, March 25, 2022, the Safety Management Information System (SMIS) officially reopened for the purpose of recording the vaccination status of new employees hired on or after January 21, 2022 (the date of the issuance of the Nationwide Preliminary Injunction). Consistent with Executive Order 13991, Protecting the Federal Workforce and Requiring Mask-Wearing (January 20, 2021), employee vaccination status is required to guide workplace safety protocols to protect the health and safety of people in DOI workplaces.

Servicing Human Resources Offices (SHRO) will begin reaching out to new employees with instructions on how to record their vaccination status in SMIS. Employees (including new employees) are not required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Employees have the option to indicate that they are not vaccinated against COVID-19. Questions should be directed to your SHRO.

Reminders

Women's Mentoring Program Launch

DOI is excited to launch a Women's Mentoring Program to provide a platform for anyone in the Department who would benefit from accessing a women-centered space. The Program's mission is to foster meaningful relationships through mentorships in which women build knowledge, confidence, character and skills to lead the Interior successfully. This effort is also intended to address the gender inequities in the federal workforce and support the administration's National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality. Interested employees may apply through Interior Women's Mentoring Program form by April 11. Contact Committee chairs Paula Estornell or Rebecca (Becky) Hunt with questions.

Coding Remote Work in FPPS

As employees continue to finalize their remote work arrangements, please ensure that their information is updated in the Federal Personnel and Payroll System (FPPS) and that employees are coded as remote workers in the system.  If you have any questions about how to code remote work in FPPS, or need a refresher, please take a moment to review the Coding Remote Work in FPPS guidance document.
