The USAO for the District of Nebraska is seeking an experienced attorney to serve in the Civil Division in Omaha and handle civil matters on behalf of the United States, inlcuding defensive torts (including medical malpractice cases), Bivens claims, and employment discrimination. The successful applicant may also handle other civil matters as needed, including bankruptcy, federal foreclosures, and other state courst matters representing the United States. AUSA's in the Civil Division are active at both the trial and appellate levels, taking depositions, preparing and responding to discovery, negotiating settlements, engaging in motion practice, trying cases, and writing and arguing appeals. Depending on the type of case, a significiant portion of day-to-day responsibilities may involve briefing of substantive legal issues.
Due to COVID-19, if selected, you may be expected to telework for an undefined period under the Department's evacuation authority, even if your home is located outside the local communting area. Employees in this status may be notified of a requirement to report in person to the component workplace with an advance notice of not less thatn 30 days. Prior to a requirement to report to the workplace, employees may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the component's telework policy.
