This position is in the Monetary Penalties and Recovery Unit (MPRU) of the Criminal Division. The Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) will serve as the Financial Litigation Program Coordinator (FLPC) for the MPRU. The MPRU includes both the Financial Litigation Program and the Asset Forfeiture Unit. Together, they comprise a team dedicated to forfeiting the profits of crime, enforcing federal criminal monetary penalties, and vindicating the rights of crime victims under federal law.

The Financial Litigation Program is responsible for the collection of restitution owed to victims of federal crimes as well as the collection of court-imposed fines, special assessments, and civil debts owed to the United States. The FLPC will be responsible for working with MPRU personnel to identify debtors' assets and to aggressively pursue collections in U.S. District Court. The FLPC will coordinate with members of the MPRU, federal agents, and other Criminal and Civil AUSAs to maximize financial recoveries for both victims and the government.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments become more complex commensurate with the FLPC's training and experience.

The District prosecutes the full range of federal criminal cases. Assistant United States Attorneys in the Criminal Division are responsible for the prosecution of cases including drugs, human trafficking, organized crime, terrorism, white collar, immigration, child exploitation, mortgage fraud, crimes in Indian Country and general crime. The successful applicant will be responsible for all phases of criminal prosecution to enforce Federal Laws, including providing guidance to Law Enforcement Officers, initiating criminal charges, conducting grand jury proceedings and felony trials, and handling appeals.

Employment with the U.S. Attorney's Office offers a unique and challenging experience for the highly motivated attorney. Working in the Criminal Division, you will be part of a dedicated team helping to enforce Federal Criminal Laws that protect life, liberty and property.  Due to the small number of criminal AUSAs employed in the District, each AUSA usually handles a variety of cases and the opportunities to specialize may be limited.

This position is located in the Civil Division in our Cheyenne Office.  The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of litigation involving the United States, both affirmative and defensive.  Due to the small number of civil AUSAs employed in the District, each civil AUSA may handle a broad range of cases, including those involving torts, bankruptcy, environmental matters, health care fraud, employment discrimination, commercial litigation (including collections), and challenges to federal agency actions, among others.
