Good Monday afternoon. The FDA has greenlighted boosters for children ages 12 to 15 as Covid surges nationwide, a major winter storm has snarled travel and shut down the nation's capital, and former President Trump's two eldest children have been subpoenaed.
Here is what's in our Nightly Rundown.

FDA authorizes boosters for 12- to 15-year-olds

The FDA has authorized booster doses of Pfizer's Covid vaccine for children ages 12 to 15, as the Omicron variant is spreading rapidly among younger people across the country.
The agency also shortened the recommended timing of Pfizer's booster shots from six months to five months for everyone over age 12, based on research out of Israel.
The move comes as many children are returning to school after the holiday break, including 1 million students in New York City, the largest school district in the nation. The city's new mayor, Eric Adams, is vowing to keep schools open amid the surge in cases.
The U.S. is now averaging 400,000 new Covid cases a day, fueled by the Omicron variant. Hospitalizations are also rising, and the numbers in New York City have now surpassed January 2021's peak surge.

Major winter storm blasts Mid-Atlantic, shuts down D.C.

The Mid-Atlantic is getting hit with its biggest winter storm in three years, with up to a foot of snow possible across parts of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey.
Some 14 million people were under winter alerts from northern Georgia up through Cape Cod. Hundreds of thousands are without power across several states.
A state of emergency has been declared in Washington, D.C., where heavy snow has shut down federal offices.
President Joe Biden was delayed in disembarking Air Force One for about half an hour this morning, when the stairlift became stuck in the snow at Andrews Air Force Base. The White House has also canceled today's press briefing.
More than 2,800 flights have been canceled today across the country, amid the bad weather and continued crew shortages due to surging Covid infections.
On the southern side of the system, the Florida panhandle saw some snow early this morning, and thundersnow has been reported in Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.

Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr. subpoenaed by NY attorney general

New York Attorney General Letitia James has subpoenaed Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. as part of her civil tax fraud investigation into the Trump Organization, according to court filings made public today.
James' office is seeking testimony and documents from former President Donald Trump's children "in connection with an investigation into the valuation of properties owned or controlled by Donald J. Trump or the Trump Organization," according to a newly unsealed New York Supreme Court order.
James is also seeking to depose the former president under oath as part of the investigation into his business.
Lawyers for the Trumps and James' office could not immediately be reached for comment. Trump and his children have not been accused of any wrongdoing in the case.

Two missing after Colorado fire destroys nearly 1,000 homes

Crews are continuing their search today for two people still missing after last week's explosive wildfire in Boulder County, Colorado.
Investigators trying to determine the cause are zeroing-in on a neighborhood where a video of a burning shed was captured the day the inferno erupted, according to authorities.
The rapidly spreading fire destroyed nearly 1,000 homes, in towns including Superior and Louisville, about 20 miles outside of Denver.
Tens of thousands were forced to evacuate, as the flames consumed entire subdivisions.

What else we're watching:

  • The woman who accuses Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her when she was a teen received $500,000 to settle a lawsuit against Jeffrey Epstein in 2009, court papers revealed. The prince denies any wrongdoing.
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown is "no longer a Buc" after he stormed off the field mid-game on Sunday, head coach Bruce Arians said.
