The incumbent of this position is expected to handle the full range of duties in the portfolio of an experienced government attorney in the area of federal-sector labor and employment law. Advisory work within JMD and externally with other Department is expected on employee performance and conduct issues, and the incumbent may regularly be called upon to help develop or advise upon performance improvement plans, disciplinary or performance-based action proposals, and decisions. Litigation of these matters before the MSPB and the EEOC may also occur. Department components may also ask the incumbent for assistance in litigating labor-related issues before the Federal Labor Relations Authority. The incumbent is also expected to advise senior JMD and Department leaders on employment-law matters as they arise. Frequent contact is expected with the Assistant Director for Labor and Employment Law but periodic contact may also occur with the HR Staff Director and possibly with the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Human Resources and the Assistant Attorney General for Administration.
