Assistant United States Attorney 11/15/2021 12:04 PM EST USAO Eastern District of Virginia Criminal Division Newport News, Virginia Announcement #: 22-EDVA-11294726-AUSA Application Deadline: November 29, 2021 An appointment as an AUSA with the U.S. Attorney's Office offers unique and challenging experiences for highly motivated attorneys seeking to represent the interests of the United States in a wide variety of federal litigation.  This position is in the Monetary Penalties Unit in the Asset Recovery Unit of the Criminal Division.   The applicant selected for this position will work with Criminal Division AUSAs on forfeiture-related issues in criminal prosecutions and have overall responsibility for all issues involving asset forfeiture, including investigations, seizures, restraint of assets, transferring title to the United States, litigating third party claims, and final disposition of assets.  Monetary Penalties Unit AUSAs also handle all civil forfeiture matters in the District.  Day-to-day responsibilities may include working with other AUSAs in the Criminal Division, law enforcement agents, research and writing, negotiating case resolutions, representation of the United States in federal court, and other litigation-related duties.  The AUSA also will work with Financial Litigation Unit AUSAs to provide expert advice on restitution and enforcement remedies for cases involving victims. All initial attorney appointments to the Department of Justice are made on a 14 month (temporary) basis pending favorable adjudication of a background investigation.  Temporary appointments may or may not be made permanent without further competition. Depending on the needs of the office, this position will be located in either Newport News or Norfolk, Virginia.
