The Office is hiring an AUSA in the Criminal Division to serve as the Deputy Chief of the Special Assistant United States Attorneys (SAUSA) Unit. The SAUSA Unit is comprised of attorneys from other Department of Justice components and federal agencies who are participating in a six-month rotation through the U.S. Attorney's Office in order to gain criminal litigation and courtroom experience. In addition, new criminal AUSAs in the Alexandria Office rotate through the Unit after they are hired. The individual selected for the position will effectively serve as the co-chief in the day-to-day felony and misdemeanor work of the SAUSA Unit, which will include assigning and supervising cases handled within the unit, providing training and lectures on various criminal procedures and issues, serving as a liaison between the USAO and the court, and assisting the Chief in supervising attorneys and staff within the unit. In addition, the selectee will personally prosecute a wide variety of criminal cases.
All initial attorney appointments to the Department of Justice are made on a 14 month (temporary) basis pending favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Temporary appointments, may or may not, be made permanent without further competition.
