Nancy Davis Womac was not allowed to see or hold her daughter after she gave birth in 1979. That was standard at the Bethesda Home for Girls in Mississippi, where Baptist preachers forced teens to memorize Bible chapters and beat them with wooden boards if they disobeyed. Decades later, many women are still searching for children they were forced to give up for adoption, an NBC News investigation found.
