November 5, 2021 Artificial Intelligence Toolkit Nathan Cunningham, senior policy advisor in the Office of Disability Employment Policy, posted a blog on "How Artificial Intelligence Affects Workers with Disabilities: A New Toolkit for Businesses." The blog highlights the Partnership on Employment and Accessible Technology's recently released "AI and Disability Inclusion Toolkit." The toolkit helps employers more equitably implement artificial intelligence technologies, especially in the hiring process. Return to Work After COVID-19 – Focus on Mental Health and Cognitive Limitations The Job Accommodation Network will host a webcast on "Return to Work After COVID-19 – Focus on Mental Health and Cognitive Limitations" on November 18 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET. The webcast will discuss anxiety, fear, safety, telework and other accommodations, the cognitive side effects of recovering from COVID-19 and more. This training will be a live question-and-answer session and will include JAN accommodation examples. Submit your questions during the live event or in advance at Training@AskJAN.org. Job Accommodation Network ENews The Job Accommodation Network released its quarterly ENews. The newsletter includes articles on telework as a reasonable accommodation during the COVID-19 pandemic, shared workspaces and accessibility, disclosing a disability before an accommodation is needed and more. It also highlights JAN's new webcast series. LEAD On! Newsletter The LEAD Center published its LEAD On! newsletter. This edition focuses on apprenticeship, including a description of apprenticeship, an apprenticeship success story, apprenticeship resources for veterans and more. Bank Partnership Pilots To learn more about effective partnerships between workforce systems and banks, the Office of Disability Employment Policy, in collaboration with its LEAD Center, is sponsoring pilot projects with three local workforce development entities: New York's Capital Region (Albany, NY), Michigan Works! Southwest (Kalamazoo, MI) and CareerSource Broward (Ft. Lauderdale, FL). The pilots will develop best practices for using bank resources to improve employment and economic self-sufficiency for low-income people with disabilities of color, in alignment with the Community Reinvestment Act. Disability Disclosure for Apprentices The Partnership on Inclusive Apprenticeship released the third resource in its apprenticeship resource series for people with disabilities. PIA published "Disclosing Your Disability and Requesting an Accommodation" to provide apprentices with information on if, when and how to disclose their disabilities and request accommodations to support their success as apprentices. Disability Inclusion Training The Partnership on Inclusive Apprenticeship posted a podcast in its "Apprenticeship for All" series on "Disability Inclusion Training for Employers." In the podcast, Dr. James McNeil, an expert in vocational rehabilitation, disability management and HR compliance, discusses the positive effect of disability inclusion training for employers. He shares how appropriate accommodations allow employers to grow a dedicated and skilled workforce while addressing intersectionality and its impact on their diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility goals. Benefits of Becoming an Employment Network The U.S. Department of Labor and the Social Security Administration will hold the second of a two-part webinar series on "Benefits of Becoming an Employment Network for Workforce Systems Series - Part II" on November 10 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. ET. The webinar will highlight the benefits of state and local area workforce leadership connecting to and becoming Employment Networks. A panel of EN professionals will discuss examples and best practices and answer questions to help workforce administrators increase employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities through ENs. |
