Burma: Rice Trade - Monthly

Post forecasts higher Burma's rice export in November in anticipation of active demand from China and EU countries during harvest of the new crop. Domestic prices for Emata decreased in early November and the prices for Shwe Bo Pawsan will likely remain stable as supplies from the new crop enter the market.

 

Chile: Avocado Annual

In marketing year (MY) 2021/22 Chile will produce 220,000 metric tons of avocado, a 57 percent increase over MY2020/21, due to favorable climatic conditions. Eighty nine percent of the avocados planted in Chile are the Hass variety. Demand for avocados is strong from both the domestic market and the export market, which has pushed prices upwards in the past two marketing years. The top export destinations for Chilean avocados are the Netherlands, Argentina, the UK, and the United States. Domestic avocado consumption will reach 100,000 MT in MY2021/22.

 

China: China Issues Draft Standard on Nut and Seed Food

The State Administration for Market Regulation issued a revised draft of the General Standard for Nut and Seed Food for domestic comment. This draft standard, an update of the existing General Standard for Roasted Seeds and Nuts (GB/T 22165-2008), defines the terms and definitions of nuts and seeds and specifies the classification, technical requirements, inspection methods and rules, as well as labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage requirements. Comments can be sent to sunjinsheng@samr.gov.cn before the deadline of December 8, 2021. This report contains an unofficial translation of the draft regulation.

 

Hungary: Avian Influenza Returns to Hungary 

Hungary regained its avian influenza free status on June 10, 2021, but the disease is now back in the country. On November 16, 2021, animal health authorities confirmed the outbreaks of the H5N1 strain of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) at two commercial duck and goose operations in south central Hungary. Control measures are currently in place. However, further cases are expected around the affected localities and in the neighboring counties.

 

India: India's FSSAI Issues Amendments to the Food Safety and Standards - Approval of Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients - Regulations 2021

On September 22, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued Notification No. F. No. Std/EC/T(NSF-01). The notification was published on the FSSAI website on September 24, 2021. The authority is amending the Food Safety and Standards (Approval for Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients) Regulations (2021) relating to regulation (4) 'Procedure for grant of prior approval.' World Trade Organization (WTO) members are invited to comment on the proposed draft amendment and the timeline to provide comments is 60-days from the date of notification on the WTO website.

 

India: India's FSSAI Specifies Labeling Requirements for Pan Masala and Various Bread Types

On September 6, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued Notification No. F. No. Std/SP-08/A-1.2020/N-01 to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Labeling and Display) Regulations (2020). The notification was published on the FSSAI website on September 8, 2021.The amendments relate to warning declarations for Pan Masala (a mixture of chopped areca nut) and the nomenclature of different varieties of bread on the labels. Comments are invited from the World Trade Organization (WTO) members (WTO notification number G/TBT/N/IND/211); the timeline to provide comments is by November 18, 2021.
