Britain and France traded accusations Thursday after at least 27 people drowned while trying to cross the channel separating the two countries, spurring calls for action on a long-simmering migrant crisis. While migrants and asylum-seekers once relied on trains and trucks to reach British soil, a crackdown at the French-British border has them increasingly turning to the channel as a faster and more reliable route to the U.K.
