After weeks of negotiations and hours of last-minute wrangling, the House voted 221-213 to clear a procedural hurdle for the $1.75 trillion sweeping social safety net bill that would dramatically expand some of the nation's government programs, particularly those serving parents and children. Democratic leaders had hoped to give the bill a final House vote on Friday, but intra-party fighting delayed a vote, which could now take place before the end of the month.
