Attorney General Frosh Issues Statement on Court Ruling Blocking Texas Abortion Ban During Litigation

BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today released the following statement on the ruling from the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas granting a preliminary injunction of Texas' abortion ban, Senate Bill 8:

"The Texas law subjects women to harassment by vigilantes has been struck down. It has already forced women to flee to neighboring states to obtain abortions and other reproductive health care, putting their health and lives at risk.

"We were proud to file a brief supporting the U.S. Department of Justice's challenge to this draconian law, and we will continue to fight to protect women's rights to make their own health care decisions."

On September 15, 2021, Attorney General Frosh joined a coalition of 24 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in support of the U.S. Department of Justice's challenge to Texas' new unconstitutional ban on most abortions.
