This week, Secretary Walsh celebrated disability employment, joined Vice President Harris at a worker roundtable, and highlighted the value of Job Corps training.  U.S. Department of Labor October 22, 2021 Celebrating NDEAM and a recovery powered by inclusion In celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh joined a virtual event with Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy Taryn Williams, other agency leaders and special guests to highlight the contributions of America's workers with disabilities.    Now open: New student enrollment for in-person instruction at Job Corps centers nationwide Secretary Walsh joined Job Corps Director Rachel Torres and others for an event highlighting the value of Job Corps' training and education programs. With new safety measures in place, more students will be able to gain skills for successful careers.  Investing in the care economy In August, Secretary Walsh visited an Ohio childcare facility for a roundtable on investing in the care economy. Kim Jarvis, director Chloe Morgan, mother Emily Lambert, caregiver Alvirleen Scott, caregiver Building back better in Michigan and beyond In Michigan this week, Secretary Walsh met with local officials and community leaders to discuss how the Build Back Better agenda benefits students, families and the economy. The trip included a conversation with Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett and students at Oakland University, as well as a tour of the Rochester Community Schools Caring Steps Children's Center. Strengthening collective bargaining Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary Walsh participated in a roundtable about improving the collective bargaining power of workers across the country as part of the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment. "Unions are good for workers," Walsh said. "They're good for our communities, they're good for our economy and they're certainly good for our country." Veteran service expansion We're inviting partners to expand employment and training services for transitioning service members and spouses. Safety citations OSHA investigators found a Texas furniture manufacturer repeatedly exposed workers to amputation hazards and cited the company for five violations.
