Trammel nets are used by biologist on the Missouri River to capture pallid sturgeon for reproductive assessment and to implant them with telemetry tags.

Pallid Sturgeon Spawn Event Implant

This wild pallid sturgeon captured by biologist is getting a 'Spawn Event' tag implanted into her oviduct canal. When the fish begins to spawn the 'spawn event' tags are pushed out of the fish letting biologist know when a fish has spawned.

Egg sample of Pallid Sturgeon

Biologist take egg samples of reproductive female sturgeon in order to calculate a time frame of their potential spawn date. Figuring out when they could spawn helps concentrate tracking efforts to pinpoint spawning location in the Missouri River.
