THE BIG STORY
Ring-wing extremists set up a planning meeting ahead of the Capitol riot in January
Prosecutors have charged yet another member of the Oath Keepers in connection with the Capitol insurrection. What's notable about James Breheny's case is that it reveals more about what authorities know.
Prosecutors say the New Jersey man was in contact with the group's founder Stewart Rhodes, and invited him to a "leadership meeting of multiple patriot groups" in southeastern Pennsylvania just days prior to Jan. 6.
According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in the District of Columbia, Breheny also forwarded Rhodes a message explaining that the meeting was "our last chance to organize before the show. This meeting will be for leaders only."
The complaint, which was just unsealed, alleges that Breheny reached out to Rhodes on Dec. 21 to invite him to a meeting on Jan. 3. He also forwarded Rhodes a message from an unnamed third party that said: "This will be the day we get our comms on point with multiple other patriot groups, share rally points etc." STAYING ON TOP OF THIS
Prince Harry told Oprah that Meghan Markle didn't kill herself because she didn't want him to lose another woman he loved
In a new docuseries called The Me You Can't See, Prince Harry reveals that Meghan Markle didn't act on the suicidal ideations she had during her pregnancy with their son Archie, because she was afraid of hurting him.
Harry said that Meghan told him that she was contemplating killing herself right before they were scheduled to attend a charity event at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
"I'm somewhat ashamed of the way that I dealt with it," Harry said. "The thing that stopped her from seeing it through was how unfair it would be on me after everything that had happened to my mum and to now be put in a position of losing another woman in my life, with a baby inside of her, our baby."
We should also mention: an independent inquiry found that the explosive interview with Princess Diana only came about because of lies and deceit. Princes William and Harry blasted the media after the revelations. Harpo Productions / BBC / Kensington Palace SNAPSHOTS
Alleged Capitol rioters are telling judges they shouldn't be tried in DC because of "cancel culture." Defendants charged in the Capitol riots on Jan. 6 are trying to get their cases moved out of Washington, DC, arguing jurors in the Democrat-leaning capital will feel forced to convict because of "cancel culture."
Federal officials seized 69 animals from Jeff Lowe's Tiger King park. Authorities seized 46 tigers, 7 lions, 15 lion-tiger hybrids, and 1 jaguar that were being abused and mistreated by the couple at their facility in Thackerville, Oklahoma, according to prosecutors. Owners Jeff and Lauren Lowe are accused of a litany of Endangered Species Act violations.
Olivia Rodrigo explained why she changed the lyrics in "Drivers License" to describe a "blonde girl" instead of "brunette girl." Rodrigo told Nylon about changing the lyrics: "There have been some songs where I've gone back and made revisions to make it a little less specific because sometimes, I think, the drama takes away from the songwriting." Some TikToks are more creative and better produced than feature films
Realistically, how much time would you say you spend on TikTok? I find the app one of the most consistent places in terms of delivering entertainment and fun. If I'm honest, more consistent than TV shows or movies I'm watching.
Tanya Chen wrote about the reality that some TikToks are just a better way to spend time than some big-budget movies. "Some creators have made such innovative 15- and 60-second videos that it's made me question if we even need big, multimillion-dollar productions from Hollywood," she writes.
It's a question that has crossed my mind too, as I watch TikToks that seem to suggest extraordinary writing and editing skills. Read Tanya Chen on impressive videos under 60 seconds that should both be a threat and inspiration to Hollywood. TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF Find a shady tree and spend time with these weekend longreads
People are ready to log off social media for good. We're so used to putting our entire lives online, but what if we just…didn't? Shannon Keating makes the case that it might be time to call it on social media: "Simply posting a life update for the sheer joy of it — rather than trying to convince other people how happy and cool and fun you are — has lost its luster lately."
Teens are right: the home quotes, a staple of millennial home decor, is kind of lame. Maybe that's OK? Stephanie McNeal writes that she "never had anything declaring my devotion to coffee or wine, but I did at one point own a sign that read: 'Espresso Yourself.'" Do you own a "Live, Laugh, Love" sign? This piece is for you.
