Deputy Counsel - Correctional Litigation DivisionPosting Date: May 18, 2021 Closing Date: June 2, 2021 Job Title: Assistant Attorney General, Deputy Counsel Position Type: Regular Full Time Location: Office of the Attorney General, Correctional Litigation Division 200 St. Paul Place, Baltimore, Maryland Description: The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for an Assistant Attorney General to serve as Deputy Counsel in the Correctional Litigation Division. The Deputy Counsel for Correctional Litigation is responsible for defending federal and state lawsuits against state correctional employees and executive officers in the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) and, the Governor's Office, as well as on occasion other state officials such as the Maryland Parole Commission chairperson and other members, and the Treasurer; providing representation including written briefs and oral argument in state and federal appellate courts including the Court of Special Appeals, the Court of Appeals, the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit , and the Supreme Court of the United States; providing advice and counsel to DPSCS concerning correctional matters; providing representation to the agency in administrative hearings related to prison issues; providing supervision and management to the Correctional Litigation Division staff; providing training concerning the law, DPSCS' practices, and OAG practices affecting litigation; and interacting on behalf of the Division with the stakeholders in federal and state court and federal and state bar associations as needed.
