May 16, 2021 CDC director defends decision to loosen mask requirements after sudden switch sparks criticism Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said that "evolving science" drove the decision to allow people fully vaccinated for Covid-19 to safely shed their masks in most circumstances.
