What's New?

  • Telework Program (PB 19-02) – Intent to Update: Based on feedback from the past year, OHC intends to update this policy to allow supervisory positions deemed eligible for telework to be considered eligible for regularly scheduled or "core" telework arrangements and to eliminate second-level review of telework agreements. For now, the Department remains in a maximum telework posture until further notice, and certainly while COVID-19 continues to impact the country and our workforce. Should you have any questions, please contact your servicing human resources office.
  • Federal Workforce Competency Initiative - The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is launching a Government-wide initiative to update job competency models. If you or your employees are contacted, please participate! The information provided from agencies across the Government will provide updated information on the competencies that are needed in different job series. Job competency data is used for a wide variety of human-capital activities including job design, classification, recruitment, selection, performance management, training, and career development. OPM is updating the models of more than 350 job series.   DOI is supporting this initiative and will be able to leverage the findings from this Government-wide analysis.

  • 2020/2021 Convocation Honor Awards Nominations - We are excited to announce that planning is underway for the 2020/2021 Departmental Honor Award Convocation. This year's ceremony will recognize the outstanding contributions of DOI employees in the areas of distinguished service, valor, bravery, safety and health, aviation, and after a long absence diversity and inclusion. Nominations should be submitted through bureau awards coordinators to Tina Walton by June 11, 2021. Additional information, including the date of the ceremony and other logistics, will be provided in the coming weeks and months.
  • DOI Temporary Procedures for Onboarding During COVID-19 Pandemic (4/13/2021) - The only change from previous temporary guidance is the DHS extension of flexibilities for Form I-9 requirements, which has been extended from 3/31/2021 to 5/31/2021.

Employee Assistance Program:

"Step to It" Challenge!

With much of the workforce still in a maximum telework posture, we encourage you to motivate your employees to "step to it"! An informal step challenge is a great way for your team to inspire each other to keep moving! Physical activity has a direct impact on mental health, and the added incentive of a challenge may provide added motivation. Even better, informal step challenges within your office may inspire other offices to "step to it" and start their own challenge!

Interior's Employee Assistant Program (EAP) provider, Espyr, is here for employees and their dependents. Espyr provides confidential counseling and consultation at no cost via telephone or other virtual means. For more information about EAP, contact Joy Buhler.
