Former Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, police Officer Kim Potter likely experienced something called "slip and capture" when she fatally shot Daunte Wright, 20, with a Glock pistol rather than a neon-colored Taser she believed she was brandishing, experts say. While the two guns feel different to hold, experts say a "horrible motor glitch" could have contributed if Potter believed she was in a high-stress situation. The tragic killing also points to how little training most officers get with the Taser but does not excuse the action, experts said. "This was a situation in which it is questionable whether a Taser was even necessary," said one former police officer. |
