Trump railed against the 'deep state,' but he also built his own. Biden is trying to dismantle it.

As president, Donald Trump railed against the "deep state" working within the federal government to undermine his presidency. But before leaving office, he quietly embedded dozens of his own political appointees in career government positions and appointed loyalists to influential boards and groups.

Now, President Joe Biden's administration is trying to root out some of those government employees, seeking to rid the broader federal bureaucracy of Trump loyalists who could hinder his agenda.
