An Apache holy site sits on one of the largest copper deposits in the world. A standoff has ensued.

Tribal members in Arizona are fighting to stop the U.S. government from transferring sacred Apache land to Resolution Copper, a company that is controlled by two foreign mining giants and plans to turn the land into one of the largest copper mines in the country.

 

The dispute has turned into a David-vs.-Goliath standoff, drawing in environmental groups and reviving centuries-old questions over land rights involving American Indians.
