DisasterAssistance.gov e-Newsletter (February 2021)

DisasterAssistance.gov is the official website devoted to helping disaster survivors. It's a portal to help survivors locate more than 70 forms of assistance across 17 federal agencies via the internet using their desktop computer, tablet or mobile device. Using prescreening technology, DisasterAssistance.gov offers an anonymous questionnaire that generates a personalized list of assistance a survivor can apply for based on the answers. The site also provides other disaster-related information and resources to help before, during and after a disaster.

Final Edition of the DisasterAssistance.gov e-Newsletter

The DisasterAssistance.gov e-Newsletter, first published almost a decade ago, was created to increase awareness of the website and to provide information to the emergency management community and our government agency partners.  Through the years, our communication channels have improved with more regular FEMA.gov and Ready.gov information and articles available to the public; and of course, the increase in the public's familiarity with DisasterAssistance.gov

Based on these enhanced engagements and the increased awareness, we feel it is time to discontinue this newsletter. We thank you for your interest and support of the DisasterAssistance.gov e-Newsletter through the years.

FEMA and DisasterAssistance.gov COVID-19 Response

FEMA continues to provide critical support to the Federal response to COVID-19. In alignment with President Biden's COVID-19 response plan, FEMA will work with the CDC and other federal agencies to coordinate with state, tribal, and territorial authorities, private sector partners and others to assist with the vaccine distribution.

Although FEMA is not accepting registrations for COVID-19 assistance, DisasterAssistance.gov has a banner on the landing page with direct links to FEMA's information channels and the Center for Disease Control's website.

DisasterAssistance.gov also links to our partners at the Small Business Administration (SBA) for information on disaster support for small businesses at: COVID-19: Small Business Guidance.

You can find more information on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) page and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

Coronavirus.gov provides the most up to date information regarding the Federal response to the pandemic.

Recovery Technology Programs Division (RTPD): New Organizational Structure – Same Exceptional Technology Services

The Recovery Technology Programs Division (RTPD) provides technology services to support the Recovery Directorate and its Agency partners.  RTPD is the program that houses DisasterAssistance.gov and all the of systems that support the site including the registration system and the disaster assistance center.

On October 1, 2020, RTPD implemented a new organizational structure that expands the division's ability to offer a seamless journey from inception to completion of all products.

By transforming into a shared services model, the Federal partnership that governs DisasterAssistance.gov will create opportunities to develop or enhance integrations and data sharing services across the site. Currently, DisasterAssistance.gov shares data with the Small Business Administration (SBA)for their loan application process; and, the site exchanges data with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to examine for duplication of benefits across both FEMA and HUD.

FEMA Releases the 2021 Preparedness Calendar

FEMA (via Ready.gov) has released the 2021 preparedness calendar. A downloadable, and interactive calendar with highlights surrounding preparedness for each month.

The Ready 2021 Preparedness Calendar is a planning tool that marks preparedness activities and provides customizable resources to help promote preparedness throughout the year. Please feel free to adapt the materials to hazards that can impact your local area.

Social media toolkits are available for many weather and climate events such as extreme heat, floods, hurricanes, wildfires and much more. Find toolkits at www.ready.gov/toolkits.

In January, the focus was on winter safety and national slavery and human trafficking prevention, along with the overall theme of "Resolve to be ready." In the coming months, the focus is earthquake safety, and flood and tsunami safety and awareness. (From: Ready.gov
