News SLOPE Offers New Data and Functionality to Inform Data-Driven Energy Planning  The State and Local Planning for Energy (SLOPE) Platform enables data-driven state and local energy planning and decision making by integrating dozens of distinct sources of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and (coming in 2021) sustainable transportation data into an easy-to-access online platform. To better inform decision making, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) enhanced SLOPE with new data, including the introduction of city-level data, and a redesigned site. Stakeholders can access new data such as: - Commercial building count and area (by building type) resolved at the state and county levels
- Twelve modeled electricity generation mix scenarios at the state level
- New geothermal, hydropower, rooftop photovoltaic, and distributed wind generation potential at the state and county levels
- Electricity and natural gas consumption and expenditures resolved at the city level.
Redesigned platform features include: - New Home and About pages that provide users with additional context on the platform and information about how to use it
- An updated Data Viewer with visual improvements to enhance data clarity

Apply Now: Technical Assistance Opportunity for Remote Communities The DOE Energy Transitions Initiative (ETI) advances self-reliant island and remote communities through the development of resilient energy systems. In an effort to ramp up these resiliency efforts, three offices within the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy—the Water Power Technologies Office, the Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO), and the Office of Strategic Programs—and DOE's Office of Electricity have joined forces with four DOE national laboratories to launch the ETI Partnership Project (ETIPP). ETIPP combines DOE's deep energy-sector experience with specialized local expertise of community-based partner organizations with the goal of advancing community energy transitions. ETIPP is now accepting community technical assistance applications from eligible communities with unreliable or expensive energy systems and supplies. ETIPP plans to select 8 to 12 remote, islanded, and island community applicants from the national applicant pool to receive technical assistance to support energy resilience planning and execution. New Compilation of Resources Focus on Resilience in the Public Sector The State and Local Solution Center website brings key resilience resources to one convenient location with the new web page, Resilience in the Public Sector. This web page highlights resources and tools from DOE and other organizations with the intention to inform states, local governments, and K–12 schools on various resilience and energy technology topics. New Research Projects to Improve the Spread of Solar Information SETO recently announced 67 project selections to advance solar technologies as part of their $130 million fiscal year funding program. Six of the projects will receive $9.7 million to study how to deliver knowledge to key stakeholders to enable quicker, more effective decision-making at the state and local levels. These projects will also help eliminate barriers to solar adoption and the combined adoption of solar with other energy technologies across the country, including rural and low- to moderate-income communities. Join Now: The Sustainable Corrections Infrastructure Partnership (SCIP) Accelerator  The Sustainable Corrections Infrastructure Partnership (SCIP) Accelerator welcomes state and federal agencies to join this voluntary initiative to upgrade public correctional facilities. Over three years, partners will design solutions that catalyze energy and water efficiency, renewable energy and storage technologies, and energy management planning to reduce operating and maintenance costs in public correctional facilities while maintaining their sector priorities of security and resilience. The TVA Board of Directors recently approved a new commercial rate structure designed to support the expansion of EV charging infrastructure across its region. USDA to Invest Nearly $900M in Rural Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Upgrades Across 43 States: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will invest $891 million to modernize rural drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in 43 states. The 220 projects are being funded through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program.
